The top score was fashioned by Minnesota red-shirt Teddy Frid, 7478, who won the Drake Relays crown. Collegiate Conference season is now underway with as many as 40(!) meets coming up this week. DECA Newsletter # 17 offers brief coverage from the spring decathlon week that is the "quiet-before-the-storm." The final week of April typically has few meets. The top effort was turned in by Minnesota red-shirt Tedd Frid (left, 22, S. St Paul), a 7478 score at the annual Drake Relays in Des Moines, IA. The next two weeks, by contrast, will be the year's busiest with nearly 70 (!) decathlons nation-wide, most college conference affairs. We'll try to keep up. This new posted Results Page offers details of the 19 USA decathlons conducted during the 3rd week of April, 2019. The major news and data came from the huge Bryan Clay meet at Azusa where 74 entered, sixty started and 54 finished. Results: 3 over 8000 points and 22 over 7000. USC freshman Ayden Owens was a PR 8130 winner over Harrison Williams/Stanford and Tim Ehrhardt/SBTC, both of who scored over '8.' Drake Relays will highlight next week if mid-west weather holds. DECA Newsletter # 16 provides coverage of the 3rd week of April, 2019 where the annual Bryan Clay meet produced some eye-opening scores. 18 year old USC freshman Ayden Owens (left) became the 83rd US citizen to score over 8000 points. DECA Newsletter # 14 is a 'catch-up' edition providing news and events/scores that have recently been overlooked. Mea Culpa. The Webb Cup, emblematic of the nation's top collegiate program (we call it 'Decathlon U') went to Wichita State U for its 2018 efforts and the Cup was awarded at the recent NCAA I champs in Birmingham, AL We also recognize the US season leading score of Dan Golubovic, 7901, a PR effort that won the recent Australian champs, and the 7248 winning effort by 17 year old Norwegian schoolboy Markus Rooth at the Arcadia Prep meet.
