Deca Newsletter # 36 offers coverage of the annual DecaStar event in Talence, France wher 26 year old Kevin Mayer (left) broke Ashton Eaton's world decathlon record by 81 points. Mayer was the Olympic runner-up to Eaton in 2016. The new global standard is now 9126. Frankly I felt that Eaton's record of 9045, set at the IAAF World champs in Beijing in 2015, would stand a bit longer. I was sure it would go, but not quite this quickly. Any rate, Congratulations to Kevin, well done, as be becomes just the 3rd (and 4th performance) over 9000 points. It took 40 years to move from 8000 to 9000 on the present tables. How long to 10,000?
