This new Results {Page post provides details for the USA decathlon meets held during the final week/weekend of April, 2018. The top score came from the Robison Invitational in Provo, a 7475 effort by BYU senior Kevin Neilsen. The major meeting was the annual Drake Relays in Des Moines where Arkansas red-shirt prevailed. This is literally the 'quiet before the storm.' Next week begins outdoor  'Conference championship' storm where nearly 70 (!) meets will be contested in two weeks. Hold onto your hats. DECA Newsletter #18 offers information for the final weekend of April, 2018. The major news came from the Drake Relays in Des Moines. Arkansas red-shirt Derek Jacobus outlasted vet Kurtis Brondyke/The Other Guys TC (left) who dnd'd the 1500m after winning 6 events and notching a PR in a 7th. The top score came from the Robison Invt in Provo, 7475 by BYU senior Kevin Neilsen. Next week college conference champs get underway in earnest. This new Results Page provides details for over 20 decathlon meets contested nationwide during the 2nd full week of April, 2018. The major news came from both Azusa, CA and Charlottesville, VA. At the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa Zach Ziemek prevailed with a 8181 score. At the UVa Challenge it was Michigan State senior Tim Ehrhardt who PR'd at 8044 becoming the 80th American over 8k. DECA Newsletter #17 provides coverage from Azusa, CA (Bryan Clay Invt) and Charlottesville, VA (UVa Challenge) where Zach 'Double Z' Ziemek (left) and Michigan State senior Tim Ehrhardt won with 8000+ efforts. 19 decathlon meets went into the books and seven nailed NCAA qualifying scores. DECA Newsletter  #15 provides info on the recent acceptance of the 2017 Webb Cup, given annually for collegiate decathlon excellence, by Chico State University on April 4, 2018. Last year's scores as well as the Webb Cup Scoring Rubric and the rules are appended. I am reminded of the best quote from 2017 about the Webb Cup competition, which came from a notable coach at the Mount Sac Relays decathlon..."There is nothing D-II about Chico's effort." DECA Newsletter #14 arrive a bit late since I've been traveling to the Sam Adams CE in Santa Barbara. It features coverage of the first full week of April, 2018 and the major news come from the Bulldog meet in Athens, GA  where Kentucky senior Tim Duckworth took out Ashton Eaton's first day collegiate record (4500) and Chris Huffins' CR in the long jump (8.01m) with 4568 and 8.03m marks. His total score was a PR 8175, yet the winner was Estonian Maicel Uibo (left) whose consistent 8407 carried the day with the early season's top score worldwide.
