DECA Newsletter # 33, Webb Cup Returns to Chico State

DECA Newsletter # 33 announces the results of the 2017 Webb Cup which was won again (they won in 2014) by Chico State U. The Webb Cup, named for former Tennessee coach Bill Webb, was begun in 2013 and denotes collegiate decathlon success using athletes scores. Congrats to coaches Oliver Hanf and John Brunk. 45 institutions were part of the calculations (at least a two man team) and 17 schools scored in the  rubric. DECA Newsletter # 32 offers coverage of day two of the 98th national decathlon title meet from Sacramento, CA where 33 year old Trey Hardee (left) won a 4th national crown with 8225 points in the searing heat. DECA Newsletter #31 provides belated first day coverage of the 98th USA national decathlon from Alex G. Spanos Stadium in Sacramento, CA. The major (Only!) story was the searing heat.....110 F air temps, higher on the infield !!! It was the hottest nationals on record. Three [Devon Williams, Trey Hardee and Zach Ziemek] have separated themselves fro the pack as the heat took its toll on scores. DECA Newsletter # 30 offers coverage of the 48th NCAA D-I decathlon from Hayward Field in Eugene, OR where Texas A&M senior Lindon Victor (left)  ran up 8390 points (3 more than last year) to repeat as the decathlon champion. DECA Newsletter #29 provides first day coverage of the 48th NCAA I decathlon from Eugene's Hayward Field where Minnesota senior Luca Wieland holds a significant lead over a 24 man field. His 4440 score included a winning 2.16m/7-1 high jump. Georgia's Devon Williams is 2nd, defending champ Lindon Victor/Texas A&M 3rd and Michigan's Steven Bastien 4th, all with outstanding first day totals. Rain is forecast fro day two.
