DECA Newsletter # 58 announces that decathlete Ashton Eaton (WR and Olympic gold medal) and his coach, Harry Marra have won the nation's top 2012 track and field awards. Eaton (left) won the annual Jesse Owen's Award while Marra was named as USA Nike Coach-of-the-Year. Both will be honored at the USA national convention in Daytona Beach, FL in early December.

DECA Newsletter # 57 offers an obituary for 1956 Olympic decathlon champion Milt Campbell who died on Nov. 2, 2012 at his home in Gainesville, GA. New Jersey's greatest athlete was 78 at the time and died from complications of prostate cancer and diabetes. Campbell was the first African-Ameican Olympic decatlon winner (Melbourne) and had unusual amateur and professional success in a wide range of sports from track and field (he was the 120 yard hurdles world record holder in 1957, 13.4), professional football, swimming and Judo. During the 2012 summer he participated in 100th decathlon birthday clebrations in Eugene, OR and Marburg, Germany.
