Ashton Eaton's dash to the finish in the 1500m (left) left him about a second short of what was needed for the collegiate record. No matter, his brave effort on the last lap and his 8457 final score had 11,972 spectators (and 23,944 over 2 days) on their feet much of the time. This NCAA meet was electric. Senior Ashton Eaton, Bend, Oregon, won 3 of the five events and posted a lifetime best first day and collegiate record score of 4500 points.
