Hardee is 2011 "Athlete of the Year"

This Newsletter offers the recently released world and USA decathlon rankings for 2011. To no one's surprise IAAF world champ and Gotzis winner Trey Hardee topped both lists. As well, Hardee was named by Track and Field News as the 2011 male "Athlete of the Year." DECA Newsletter #49 offers coverage of the Pan-American Games decathlon from Guadalajra, Mexico. Cuba's busy Leonel Suarez was the gold medalist topping ex-Auburn star Maurice Smith/JAM. Chilean Gonzalo Barroilhet, a recent grad of Florida State, was 4th with a score 14 digits shy of 8k. Americans Matt Johnson and Mark Jellison were 10th and 11th, both victims of no-heights.
